Before acid house, before Ibiza, there was Essex. The south of the county in particular was once a hotbed of clubbing, with such venues as the Goldmine on Canvey Island, Zero 6 in Southend and Raquels in Basildon filling dancefloors almost every night. But what happened to these clubs – and what is their legacy today?

Edited by Tim Burrows (author of The Invention of Essex), See You Down Raquels features newly commissioned essays by Dan Hancox, Morgan Quaintance, Sarah Wayman, Tim Burrows - and Emma Edmondson, a Southend-based artist and the founder of TOMA, who collaborated with Tim on the wider project, Clubbing and Commune-ing in Essex. The book is published alongside beautifully printed, specially commissioned flyer artworks by Woodsy Bransfield, Evan Ifekoya, Maxine Newell, Elle Reynolds and James Tuitt, alongside a new audio work by Martin Osman, and packaged in a 'Dont Panic' style envelope pack.
